The Cholera Epidemic of 1885 in the Limits of Campo de Montiel: Membrilla, Manzanares and Valdepeñas

Abstract

The cholera morbid was one of the diseases which had more impact in Spain during the XIX century, with four big epidemic outbreaks that caused hundreds of thousands of deaths. The last one, took place in 1885, even though his incidence wasn’t very important in Campo de Montiel, with two towns’ exceptions, one in the eastern limit, Villanueva de la Fuente, and the other one in the western, Membrilla. In this project we are going to study the incidence of the epidemic in the western limit of Campo de Montiel, Membrilla and his adjacent Manzanares, as well as Valdepeñas. We analyse the affected people, then duration of the epidemic moment duration and the measures taken to fight the disease.
